Check out my pics from Dhaba! This is a great restaurant in Middleton, and it's an upcoming feature in Madison Magazine's Sip and Savor.
I loved meeting the (newlywed) owners, Amandeep Kaur and Sonu Singh. Did you know that in Punjab, basically all of the women have the last name Kaur, and all the men have the last name Singh? Read about it here. I learn something new everyday. Anyway, I loved the food. It is so delicious AND it's unique in the sense that it is the only Indian restaurant in Wisconsin that does not offer a buffet. Fancy pants! Sonu says that's because some dishes don't taste the same after sitting on a buffet for an hour. Read Channel 3000 editor Hannah McClung's review I was so amazed by the food and the folks. You gotta stop by! Even Sonu took the time to let me interview him on his birthday! What a nice couple.

I just boarded my puppies for the first time. And of course, it was harder on me than it was on them. We took them to Camp K9, which has received the gold star several times from Madison Magazine readers. We got a bed and biscuit room for the girls, which gave them a little more room to sleep in. They also were able to watch TV on occasion. Funny, right? But what I wasn't expecting was a report card. It was precious. Not only did they get pawsitive news, they were also deemed as cute and cuddly, essentially. I would agree. On that note, I'll leave a little interaction we had Tuesday afternoon. I tried to get Piper to do some tricks (video) and I took of pic of Minnie watching and thinking... "WTH?!" Minnie looks perplexed! I just discovered the stories feature on Google+ and I love it. Best part? You don't have to do a thing. It's been around for a few months, but I guess I hadn't taken enough cool pictures in one place. Google+ now creates a travelogue with your collection of videos, pics and GIFs... as well as adds dates and maps to your story. I just got home from Florida and found my storybook update waiting for me! Here are some snapshots: WATCH my Duck Key story We went with family to Florida to be guests on Bass2Billfish with Peter Miller. Loved every minute of it - it was a great experience to fish with such an awesome dood but also to get in some Q-T with the fam. You'll see the whole story later! I don't really know what the approximation of pi(e) day means, but I sure do appreciate it. Hannah McClung tried to explain it to me, but I am still confused. Thanks to our pie guy at Hubbard Avenue in Middleton, our newsroom was full of wonderful, delicious handmade pies! I always get here in the afternoon, so I don't get to take a picture of the pies when they're the most beautiful.
Still, they are amazing! Thank you so much, Jason! Follow him at @thepieguywi I think everyone living near Madison loves Restaurant Week! I have learned to go on the first day because it's the only time I can get out for dinner with my work schedule. Since I write for Madison Magazine, I usually get a few vouchers for some of the participating restaurants, too. Bonus! So, Jim and I went to Brocach on Monroe. We both ordered the crab and avocado salad, made with marinated cherry tomatoes, olive tapenade and crusty bread. Jim ordered the grilled petit filet with a summer corn succotash and bleu cheese butter. I really enjoyed the pan roasted halibut over a summer squash gratin and tarragon mayonnaise. We ended our meal with a pecan bread pudding and chocolate fondant cake with raspberry coulis.
It's time to bring out this gem. This video possible by our friend James Yaeger. Gary started dancing a while back and Eric took video of it... Gary has a great sense of humor!! Bringing it out for your Wednesday slump because this always makes me smile. I just can't get over how cheap food is at Asian Midway Foods on Park Street. Sunday must be the day to go because there were tons of customers and several workers bustling out fresh produce. [TIP!] Now... I've read Yelp. I get it. Some of you don't like AMF, but my sister is the boss...OK? She is an F-O-B in a kick arse way. Urban dictionary it. Anyway, she likes AMF best because the prices are so similar to China. She loves getting the produce, Japanese tofu and dumplings there. Since she's vegan, she buys a handful of things over and over again... so is it for everyone? Mehbe. Mehbe not. But, we like it. Check out these olives! The store has a small Middle Eastern section, and these black olives are actually more similar to kalamata olives. Oh, and I got nearly 300 in this package for about $2.70. And the rest? It's obvious. Some big faves this purchase: lychee, hummus and olives. Not pictured are about 10 baby bok choy heads that I got for about $2.50. No offense, but I got about 6 wilted ones at Hyvee for about $8. Still bitter about it, though I love Hyvee for most things.
I got a whole cart of food for about $55. I was practically skipping out of the parking lot. Oh yeah, and I bought my favorite spicy bean oil. President Clinton called it the scariest place on earth. And we signed off on getting there in 2009. Sorta. Jim and I had to sign a waiver that basically said we understood the risk of going to the border of North and South Korea. It's known as the DMZ, or Demilitarized Zone... which I never really understood because it seems like it's the opposite of that.
The waiver's wording was something like, "if you get maimed or killed, you can't sue the US government." I started to get worried because you had to 1) sign up with a Chinese agency -- no Korean group would take us. 2) No one really spoke English that well on our tour bus. 3) We had to spend about 8 hours there, no exceptions. READ about our experience in an old blog post Anyway, this is what I look(ed) like about without eyelashes and dark hair. Note to self. If you're on Google Plus, you probably already know about the Auto Awesome feature. If you don't, then take the time to check it out! READ: Get effects added to your photos with Auto Awesome Short version? Take 5 pictures with your phone. Google Plus will likely make a GIF with them. It will also detect snow and make snow fall in your pictures... cool stuff like that. Anyway, it's got me trained to now take 5 pictures in a row for just about everything.... even when I'm dangling from a tree. This is my favorite Auto Awesome moment so far. We were down in Texas covering the Final Four and these gals got up on the table and started jamming out to Footloose. And. It. Was. Awesome.
